Dental Surgeon

Dr. John McKean, MD, licensed in Dental Surgery, qualified in 1975 by the University of Birmingham, School of Dentistry of the United Kingdom, is part of the medical team at Clínica Pacífico in Albufeira.
Dr. John McKean is able to relate to the patient's fears after a painful experience as a child that left him a "dental phobic" working now to help ease the patient's fears at the Clinica Pacifico.

“I spent much of my early career finding ways to overcome patients' fears. The main problem is that the patient, feeling intimidated, feels out of control of his situation. Many had gone to dentists who gave instructions on how to signal discomfort, but the dentist just continued, thus destroying any faith the patient might have had and increasing the feeling of panic,” said Dr. John McKean. “We try to make all patients feel welcome and relaxed. Patients should always be in control of all the treatments they are performing and we must be sure that patients understand the treatments that are recommended and what alternatives exist, keeping patients fully informed of the cost implication,” he added.

Orthodontist

Originally from Porto, city where she was born, studied and completed her dental degree in 2006.
In 2007, her great passion for children led the choice of a Postgraduate Degree in Pediatric Dentistry, later consolidated with a 2nd Postgraduate Degree in Integrated Pediatric Dentistry.
Being extremely dynamic and permanently in search of new challenges, always focusing on continuous learning, she concluded her specialty in Orthodontics in 2012, thus reconciling two areas that nurture great enthusiasm, a harmonious smile and children.
During her professional career, completed advanced training in Interceptive Orthodontics, Simplified Straight Wire Technical Orthodontics with self-ligating, Orthodontic Folds, Mini-Implants in Orthodontics, Basics and fundamentals of advanced orthodontics and the official accreditation course INVISALIGN, as well as participating in several seminars and conferences at Orthodontics area.
Passionate about nature and animals, moved to the Algarve at the beginning of 2021, motivated by the pleasant and sunny climate characteristic of this region, continuing her search for new challenges.

General Dentistry

Dr. Nuno Read recently joined our team and has proved to be popular with our patients. A young and a talented dentist, he was born in Coimbra, a beautiful city in the central region of Portugal, where he also completed his studies in dentistry. Dr.Nuno Read earned his degree in Dentistry from the prestigious Faculty of Dental Medicine of the University of Coimbra, where he developed a passion for his profession. He has always been fascinated by oral health and its role in our daily life. After finishing his studies, he began working as a general dentist in several clinics, where he gained valuable experience. Dr. Nuno Read's main area of interest is restorative, cosmetic dentistry and Periodontology. He has a wealth of knowledge in restoring damaged teeth, and improving the overall appearance of his patients' smiles. His commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest dental techniques and technologies is evident in his work. He frequently attends conferences and seminars to expand his knowledge and refine his skills. Dr. Nuno Read's dedication to his patients is unmatched. He strives to provide the highest level of care to each of his patients, ensuring that they are comfortable and well-informed throughout the entire process. He takes the time to understand each patient's individual needs and concerns and works closely with them to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses their specific dental issues. In addition to his work as a dentist, when he has free time, he enjoys reading books, going to the cinema, playing electric guitar, and jogging through scenic outdoor landscapes relishing nature, a contributing reason for his move to the sunny Algarve.
